The October meeting was called to order by Dennis followed by the pledge to our flag. Bill and Diane Clifton and Lois and Dick Dove were introduced as guests. There were 20 members present.
Last month’s minutes were approved with a motion by Rita, second by Le. Kevin reported that we had money in our account.
The Doves were given a plaque of appreciation for their hospitality involving the hiking club. Honorary membership was also given to them with the motion by Dwayne , second by OV Keith.
David reported on the progress of the repair work on the truck. The groomer is ready to start "making tracks" as soon as we get a good snow. Doug reported that we are members of the Old Spanish Trails Association,
In absence of Nancy, Dennis gave reports on our hikes and ATV rides. We are continuing to hike even though the season has ended trying to discover some new trails for next season. We had a ride last Saturday and placed markers on the trails with a wiener roast for lunch. There is a plan to put numbers below the signs showing the trail numbers.
Old business:
The Club will participate in the Alamosa parade on Nov. 11th. We will have the decorative bunting for the Sno Cat in time for this.
The Tourism Board will pay the expense of having more of our maps printed.
The 6X6 machine has been purchased by the Ambulance Board. We have not yet been notified as to the amount of financial aid that will be required to get it equipped.
New Business:
Dues need to be paid. OV and Dwayne will contact businesses concerning membership.
Doug submitted the names of Dwayne for VP and Kevin for treasurer. These will be elected in November. Nominations from the floor can also be made at that time.
Changing our meeting date to the 3rd Tuesday of the month was suggested. This will be voted on during the Nov. meeting.
Our Christmas party will be at the Annex on Dec. 13th from 5 to 10 PM with the meal being catered by the Nightengales. There will be a gift exchange with a $10 limit.
The decision to which charity our 10% contribution would be donated to took considerable time. Le gave a report on the Rio Grande Hospital. Dwayne spoke about LA Puente’s needs. Gloria spoke on the proposed South Fork Library and the Rio Grande Park. The needs of the Mountain Trails Youth Ranch and the Colorado Angels were presented by Candice Price. After some discussion, Dwayne withdrew his nomination. With the financial need of the Colorado Angels being met by Mac, their name was also withdrawn. Doug made the motion to donate the total amount to the charity getting the majority of the members’ votes. Second by David; motion passed. The Mountain Trails Youth Ranch was chosen to receive our contribution of 10% of our last years grooming funds.
David received the prize for the best costume.
Mac reported on the proposed numbering of the state’s trails. The clubs in Dist. 7 don’t want to comply. He said each club needs to have a representative at the meeting to vote against this proposal. Each club in this district had representation at the Snow Show. We extend our appreciation to the city of South Fork for sending Josephine to the event in Denver.
The FFOF award stays with Edna.
The 50/50 door prize was won by Judy.
Meeting was adjourned.
